The book is a fascinating overview of the history of the area from Aboriginal to modern times. Hornsby is known to any Sydneysider travelling north. It is well remembered for the mansions and famous people who lived there in the 19th century to enjoy the rural landscape and cooler climate. Berowra Waters has played host to many holidaymakers and its houseboats are a memory of our recent past. The advent of the road and rail bridges opened up the north coast to many and the town of Brooklyn was home to travellers and railway workers.
Mari Metzki is the author of Federation Hornsby: the development of the Mount Errington area and The history of Hornsby Girls’ High School 1930–1990: ‘Faith with fortitude’, the school, Hornsby, 1990.
