Warringah was sparsely settled until the end of the nineteenth century when only a few farmers took produce to the city down the old Jenkins Road. When swimming was legalised in 1903 bathers flocked to the Manly and Warringah beaches and the surf life saving movement was born with Freshwater people who spent Christmas holidays in camps and cottages
around the Narrabeen lagoon and beach. As the coastline was more densely settled movement to the heights occurred in the post war 1950s when Allambie Heights, Collaroy Heights and Cromer Heights opened up.
Bushland suburbs like Terrey Hills were settled earlier and havens such as Cottage Point had people boating there to build in the early 1900s. This book captures the spirit of Warringah: the beaches, the bushland, the volunteer spirit and the will to have a go are all seen in the marvellous photographs of the area.
All suburbs of Warringah are covered from Killarney Heights to Forestville, Frenchs Forest to Belrose, Allambie to North Balgowlah, Narraweena to Beacon Hill, Brookvale and Dee Why, North Manly to Curl Curl, Collaroy to Cromer and all the suburbs in between.
