Maroubra Golden Age of the 'Bra covers the history of Maroubra and its surfing story up to the 1990s. This iconic Sydney beach runs consistent surf and can also throw up the wildest conditions. Four ships have been wrecked in the bay. In the early 20th century surf lifesavers created a beach culture and managed beach safety. By the 1950s boardriding clubs began to form and boards changed in styles and lengths. In the 1970s and 1980s Maroubra surfers started to appear on the world stage having learned to surf the big waves on their local beach. Read more
